Eating Healthy On The Road

5 a Day - For Better Health
You may have heard of the 5 a Day campaign. Sometimes it is easier to eat 5 fruits and vegetables a day with all of the fresh fruits and vegetables during the summer months.
Fruits and vegetables are low in calories and fat but high in vitamins, minerals, and fiber. They also help reduce cancer risk.
Even though we are not in the garden season, you can still get your 5 a day! If you want strawberries in January, buy some frozen ones at the store. To help get in your 5 a day, drink a glass of 100% fruit juice (3/4 cup). It makes a great pick me up or snack.
Keep raisins, craisins and those "baby" carrots on hand. Take advantage of what is in season. Right now the apples are great.
One medium apple is one serving. If you keep 5 a day in mind, it is not so hard to get them in. Drink a glass of juice or eat a banana at breakfast, a vegetable at lunch, a fruit snack in the afternoon and a fruit and vegetable for dinner. Enjoy!!
